    The Fadiman microdosing routine: what is it?

    If you want to start microdosing, you may be tempted to just take a dose every day, but it is better to stick to the Fadiman microdosing routine. This means that you take a dose every three to four days. Following a routine brings several benefits. In this blog we explain to you what these benefits are and what other routines there are.


    The benefits of the Fadiman routine

    When you start using a supplement, you are usually supposed to use it every day. But with microdosing this is not the case. When you microdose you take a very low dose of a psychedelic substance, such as truffles or magic mushrooms. It is the substance psilocybin that can have a positive effect on your body and mind. But many people wonder why taking it daily is not recommended.


    There are several reasons for this. First of all, the Fadiman microdosing routine is intended to prevent the body's tolerance. With tolerance, the body gets used to the substances you ingest. This happens, for example, with coffee and alcohol, but can also happen with psilocybin. If you take your microdose daily, you run the risk of developing tolerance, which means you will respond less and less sensitively to psilocybin. And that is of course not what you want.


    Furthermore, the Fadiman routine helps to perceive the effects more accurately. On the day you take a dose, you may notice that you feel clearer, have more energy or that your concentration increases. These effects may diminish in the following days. This makes you more aware of what microdosing does to you. Furthermore, the rest days also give your body the necessary time to recover.


    How does the Fadiman microdosing routine work?

    This scheme was devised by James Fadiman who has done a lot of research into psychedelics. The routine gives you guidance and structure when microdosing. In principle it is very simple. You take a microdose every three to four days. If you want, you can also choose two fixed days a week on which you take a dose. If you follow the Fadiman routine for microdosing, you will use this schedule for 4 to 8 weeks, and then you will take a rest for 2 weeks (so you will not take microdoses).


    • Day 1: Take a microdose.
    • Day 2: Transition day, no microdose. Time to experience the effects.
    • Day 3: Normal day, you don't take a microdose. You give your body time to recover and see if you feel any differences compared to the previous days.
    • Day 4: Take a microdose.
    • Day 5, 6 and 7: No microdose


    You can continue this way for 4 to 8 weeks. It is important to carefully observe what microdosing according to the Fadiman routine does to you. Determine if this works for you and also if you have the right dose.

    Intuitive microdosing

    In fact, this is not a schedule or protocol, because you intuitively decide whether to take a microdose on a given day or not. The only thing that is certain is that there is always a day without a dose between two microdose days. This also prevents you from building up tolerance. It's common for people to stick to the Fadiman microdosing routine for a while and then switch to taking their doses intuitively. That is also possible, once you have a good feel for how you respond to the doses and know what the effects are. Even with intuitive microdosing, it is advisable to take a 2-week break after 4 to 8 weeks.


    Evening protocol

    One of the side effects of microdosing with truffles can be that it makes you sleepy or tired. Then it may be a good idea to stick to the evening protocol. You then take a dose every other day, but you take it just before going to sleep. You can then benefit from the fatigue it causes. Microdosing before you go to sleep will help you sleep through the night. It can make you dream more vividly, but many people report that they wake up well rested and have more energy during the day with this protocol.


    It is recommended to take the microdose at least an hour before going to sleep. If you use the evening protocol, you can take a dose every other day, but you can also follow the Fadiman routine.


    Ways to support microdosing
