Do you dream of growing your own mushrooms at home? With our growing kit for Wig fungus (Lion's mane) this is easier than you think. Here's a simple guide to growing, caring for and harvesting this delicious mushroom.
Preparation: Once the grow kit arrives, give the mycelium a few days to recover. Expose it to air so it can breathe. Then fold the bag up again as shown in the image:
Beginning of growth: Wait until you see small white protrusions on the substrate. Then it's time to make cuts for optimal growth.
Then fold the grow kit again as you received it. You can use the supplied elastic for this. Place the grow kit on a clean surface, preferably on a damp cloth on a plate. Make sure that the environment in which you place the grow kit is free from drafts. If necessary, place the bag with holes over the grow kit to create a humid environment. To increase the humidity, you can spray the inside of the bag.
Make two incisions of approximately 5 cm in the block, preferably on either side of the label and then diagonally upwards. You can also choose to lay the block on its side and make the cuts at the top. This way the wig mushrooms will grow at the top of the block instead of the side.
Maintenance: Ensure a humidity of 70-80% and a temperature of 18-24°C.
Harvest: When the Lion's mane is bright white, and before they turn color, it is time to harvest.
Store your fresh Lion's mane in a paper bag in the refrigerator. They keep well for about a week.
